Valuable or Invaluable?

Valuable or invaluable, what does God say you are?

Valuable vs invaluable?

I am about to provide you with a valuable lesson on usage of these two words that I hope will be invaluable.

This past Sunday we talked about how each of us are invaluable to God and to the work of God’s church.

So just to be clear, the word invaluable is not the opposite of valuable  —like those words like flammable or inflammable.

Valuable and invaluable are two words that mean the same thing even though they look like they should be opposites, because while the prefix in- usually means "not," in this case it means something different.  (English can be so confusing!!)

We think of valuable as meaning "having a great deal of value," as in "valuable jewelry" or "learned a valuable lesson.”

Invaluable, on the other hand, means "valuable beyond estimation." Much like priceless it describes something that is of such a great value that it cannot fairly be quantified.

One could say that it's so valuable that it's invaluable.

Valuable or invaluable, what are we in God eyes?  BOTH!

The Apostle Paul talks about the church being the body of Christ and how we, as part of the body, are essential.  Every part is essential, Paul uses the word indispensable.  He reminds us that even the parts that seem insignificant are actually invaluable!

We are invaluable!

So today as you go about your day, stop and remember that you are seen by God as God’s own child.  You are important and indispensable, with gifts and talents that only you possess to do what only you have been called to do.  Without you, there is something missing… you are invaluable!
