Everyday miracles (part 3)

November 11, 2015 by Rev. Mona Scrivens

On Tuesday night as the Elders gathered together for our monthly Session meeting, we listened to a song called Shout to the Lord.  It’s a powerful song about crying out to our majestic God, in prayer.  After listening to the song, I read some verses of scripture, like this one:

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.  He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.  Then they were glad that the waters were quiet and he brought them to their desired haven.” — Psalm 107:28-30

And then we prayed.  We prayed that God would move mightily in our lives and in the life of this congregation.  We prayed for you.

Max Lucado, a wonderful Christian author says in The Devotional Bible:  “Want to see a miracle? Try this: Take a seed the size of a freckle. Put it under several inches of dirt. Give it enough water, light and fertilizer. Get ready. A mountain will be moved.  It doesn’t matter that the ground is a zillion times the weight of the seed. The seed will push it back,”

God hasn’t stopped doing miracles. God is still the miracle maker and makes miracles everyday and God will do a miracle in our lives too!

In the gospel of Mark we are reminded that when we want to see a miracle in our life, all we need to do is pray and believe.

“Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” –Mark 11:22-24 ESV

What an amazing promise!

In John 15:7 the Word of God says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

And check this out. “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” — 1 John 5:14-15

I love knowing that God wants to answer our prayers. Not only that, but God knows what we need, when we need it and even how we need it... better than we do!

Today, trust that God has your best interest at heart and will perform miracle after miracle in your life — in God’s way and in God’s time — all you need to do is PRAY and BELIEVE!

Remember,  you have the ingredients for a miracle in your midst!

Join us this Sunday as we talk more about the Miracle Maker!  Also, on Sunday we will join our hearts in prayer as we dedicate the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. You won't want to miss that!
