Why do you adore Jesus?

December 10, 2014 by Rev. Mona Scrivens

O come all ye faithful joyful and triumphant

Oh come ye O come ye to Bethlehem;

Come and behold him born the King of angels;

O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him,

O come let us adore him,

Christ the Lord.

Sing choirs of angels sing in exultation

Sing all ye citizens of heaven above;

Glory to God, all glory in the highest;

O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him,

O come let us adore him,

Christ the Lord.

There has been Christmas music flowing through our home the past couple of weeks, particularly as I have been thinking and praying through some of the beloved songs that we sing during this time of year for our Advent series entitled:  Christmas Carols.

Last Sunday we looked at the famous hymn, O Come All Ye Faithful.  To me, it's probably one of the most  meaningful hymns that we sing at Christmas. If you recall it was the first song we sang to begin the Advent season two weeks ago and we heard it again last week.

Did you know that in scripture when something is repeated three times, it means that the word or phrase is to be taken to the highest level of importance?

In the hymn O Come All Ye Faithful the author makes clear that there is nothing more important than offering adoration to Christ the Lord, so it is sung three times.

O come let us adore him.  O come let us adore him.  O come let us adore him. Christ the Lord.

Why do you adore Jesus?

Take some time to reflect on what God has done for you. What has Jesus blessed you with? What has Jesus brought you through? What has Jesus taught you? What has Jesus offered you?

Now – sing of your adoration to God so that others may know the true hero of Christmas. Not the old pudgy guy who wears a red suit, but rather the ONE who wears a robe of righteousness.  It’s to Him we sing, Glory to God, all glory in the highest.

As we continue our journey through this advent season - between the shopping, baking and wrapping - take time to adore God.

Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!" Psalm 96:9

Join us this Sunday as we continue our series called Christmas Carols.  You will want to be there to experience all that Sunday at Amberlea has to offer.  Bring a friend and let's worship God together!
